Overview

This webinar will provide a review of the application of the Genesis analysis and design optimization software in the Formula 1 Industry. First adopted by Formula 1 teams in 2004, Genesis is now routinely used to develop optimal designs for both composite and metallic structures. The webinar will pay particular focus on the application of Genesis for the optimization of composite structures, discussing and demonstrating the use of Topometry optimization for the development of optimal ply laminates. Provided as a specific tool to simplify the composite optimization process GRM offers a pre&post processing tool, OptiAssist, which allows the efficient creation of composite studies and the linking of Genesis to ply draping tools such as Anaglyph Laminate Tools.
The webinar will also discuss the application of Genesis for non-composite structures, considering Topology, Topometry and Shape optimization. A demonstration of the coupled optimization to Abaqus for Topology using TruForm will be made, discussing both its methods and example practical applications.
Concluding comments will then be made, reviewing the methods that are available today and the presenter’s vision for the further development and continued application of Genesis within Formula 1.

About the Speaker

Mr. Martin Gambling received his degree in Automotive Engineering from Loughborough University, specializing in Non-linear impact simulation of Formula 1 structures for his thesis. Since graduating, Martin has worked in the field of Finite Element simulation, developing a specialism for application and development of design optimization methods. In 2003, having worked for several consulting companies, Martin founded GRM as distributor of VR&D optimization software. He distributes VR&D products in the UK and some other European countries. Providing Genesis to many of the Formula 1 Teams, Martin has developed additional tools to facilitate the optimization of composite laminate optimization and allow coupled optimization to non-linear solvers.
